Be among the new generation of leaders in the exciting and revolutionary field of medical informatics by enrolling in the online format of Northwestern’s distinguished Master of Science in Medical Informatics (MMI). Students in this prestigious program are dedicated to improving the health care industry and standards of quality patient care.
Offered in a convenient online format, the MMI program is designed for working professionals in the health care and IT industry. Students have the opportunity to start courses in one of four terms during the year. The program consists of 11-13 courses and each course is 10 weeks in length. Many students are able to graduate within 18 to 24 months of uninterrupted part-time study.

Northwestern’s MMI program focuses on the application of information management and leadership principles for the improvement of communications across the health care industry. Students will also acquire the technical knowledge of system design, integration, implementation, and evaluation of health care information systems. The unique interdisciplinary program between Northwestern University School of Continuing Studies and Feinberg School of Medicine enables students to leverage their work experience in the health care field and acquire the technical skills required in maintaining and analyzing the storage and transmission of patient data.
Graduates will possess a full understanding of how medical informatics improves communication among patients, providers and clinicians to reduce medical errors and health care costs. Northwestern University School of Continuing Studies has created a unique leadership course for distance learning students that will foster exposure to theories and best practices in the field of medical informatics.
The 10-week leadership class is designed to equip students with effective leadership techniques and communication skills necessary to implement change management and innovation. The course gives students exposure to theories and best practices in the field and better prepares graduates to meet the challenges of the professional workplace.
